The products of the ozonization of brown coals and humic acids in glacial acetic acid at room temperature consists of lower mono- and dicarboxylic acids, hydroxy and keto carboxylic acids, and aromatic mono-, di-, and polycarboxylic acids, and also higher aliphatic mono- and dicarboxylic acids. The quantitative and qualitative compositions of the acids indicate a mainly aliphatic structure of the coals and humic acids.
