Effects of the coupling to {sup 6}Li{r arrow}{alpha}+{ital d} nonresonant continuum states on polarized {sup 6}Li scattering at {ital E}{sub lab}{congruent}20--100 MeV are investigated in the framework of the continuum-discretized coupled-channels (CDCC) method which takes into account the resonant and nonresonant {alpha}-{ital d} breakup states of {sup 6}Li. A convergence of the calculated analyzing powers of {sup 6}Li elastic scattering against the size and the discretization of the breakup continuum is examined. The resulting model space of the breakup states consists of the {alpha}-{ital d} {ital S}-wave ({ital l}=0), {ital P}-wave ({ital l}=1), and {ital D}-wave ({ital l}=2) states up to the {alpha}-{ital d} relative momentum of {ital k}=1.2 fm{sup {minus}1}. The results of the CDCC calculation show that the effects of the nonresonant breakup states are quite as significant on the analyzing powers as those of the resonant breakup states.
