Conversion of fixed-bed reformers to UOP CCR platforming technology

Conference ·
OSTI ID:5238049
This paper focuses on conversion of fixed-bed catalytic reforming units to the UOP Platforming process with Continuous Catalyst Regeneration (CCR). Recent CCR Platforming developments improve the cost effectiveness of increasing the gasoline pool octane. The industry must respond to lead phase down and the reduction of gasoline pool RVP while facing an increase in demand for mid/premium gasoline grades. Developments in CCR Platforming technology since 1971 have steadily reduced the cost of octane production and have resulted in more attractive investment returns. The potential for conversion of older, higher pressure fixed-bed technology to CCR Platforming technology has become a reality for a number of refiners, converting at a fraction of the cost of a new unit. The yield benefits derived from lower pressure operation can result in an attractive payout for a conversion project.
