Survey of student's attitudes and knowledge on energy issues

Journal Article · · Environ. Prof.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5236434

Rising college costs reflect the increase in energy costs and underscore the need for better housekeeping and conservation. A seven-year program at Pennsylvania State University saved over $20 million in avoided costs. After a contest to provide financial incentives brought more positive attitudes and cooperation from the students only for the duration of the contest, a survey of student motivation evaluated both the attitudes and knowledge of over 1500 students. The author analyzes the survey results and identifies areas where student perceptions of the energy situation suffer from a lack of information and understanding. 5 references, 6 tables.
