Heitler--London description of the covalent bond in H/sub 2/

It is shown that there is a natural correspondence between the Heitler-London energy expressions for H/sub 2/ and an energy expression based on localized wave functions. This correspondence and rather accurate localized wave functions are used to verify the Heitler-London explanation of covalent bonding in H/sub 2/.
