Public health assessment for Heleva Landfill Coplay (Ironton Village), Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, Region 3 (addendum). Cerclis No. PAD980537716. Final report
The public health assessment prepared by The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) on April 17, 1989, for the Heleva Landfill site fully addressed most of the components of a public health assessment report. The addendum to the previous public health assessment is prepared to incorporate some new information obtained during a focused Remedial Investigation (RI), which relates to soil contamination. Although the current RI has focused on soil contamination, it has not provided information on surface soil (0-3 inches) contamination both on site and off site. The information is needed to determine if human contact with contaminated surface soil has public health implications associated with it. Therefore, the site, specifically the potential for contact with surface soil, represents an indeterminate public health hazard. However, the site is considered a public hazard because of the risk to human health resulting from past exposures through the use of contaminated residential well water at concentrations that may result in adverse health effects.
