The rate coefficients of the reaction of OH and C{sub 2}H{sub 4} with the diluents M = He (P{sub He} = 1-5 Torr), N{sub 2} (P{sub N{sub 2}} = 0.8-3.2 Torr) and O{sub 2} (P{sub 0{sub 2}} = 0.3-1.5 Torr) have been determined by means of the discharge flow/resonance fluorescence technique. The rate coefficients agree well with the set of smaller reported values. The termolecular rate coefficients at the low-pressure limit (all in unit of 10{sup {minus}29} cm{sup 6} molecule{sup {minus}2}s{sup {minus}1}) at 300 K are k{sup III}{sub He} = 2.7 {plus minus} 0.5, k{sub O}{sup III} = 5.3 {plus minus} 1.1, and k{sub N}{sup III}, = 6.1 {plus minus} 1.2; the uncertainties represent 95% confidence limits. The rate coefficients for M = He was studied over the temperature range 251-430 K. A negative activation energy (-E{sub a}/R) in the range 1,290-1,560 K, much greater than the previously recommended value, has been observed.
