FTC charges four makers of antiknock compounds with unfair competition
The Federal Trade Commission's complaint alleges that Ethyl Corporation, E.I. Du Pont De Nemours and Company, P.P.G. Industries, Inc. and Nalco Chemical Company facilitated maintenance of uniform prices by signaling future price changes to competitors. FTC also alleges the companies lessened uncertainty about price movements and facilitated maintenance of substantially uniform prices by selling only on a uniform delivered price basis. The Commission released a proposed order, which of the companies have violated the FTC Act, would prohibit: (1) the present delivered price system and systematic freight equalization, (2) the public announcement of antiknock compared prices as well as any advance notice of price changes, and (3) most favored customer clauses. The Commission vote was unanimous in this matter. The legal document is included; Docket No. 9128, FTC Complaint. (DP)
