Removal of silica from spent geothermal brine
Preliminary survey experiments conducted at the LLL Salton Sea Geothermal Test Site in April and May, 1977 are reported. The addition of caustic to raise the brine pH to approximately 6 precipitated silica and other materials. The addition of flocculating agents, such as ferric hydroxide, aids settling and filtration. Small-scale pilot plant studies are recommended.
