The photoreduction of viologens, such as methylviologen (MV/sup 2 +/) and zwitterionic viologenpropanesulfonate (PVS), with Zn(TPPS)/sub 3//sup 3 -/ were investigated. By laser flash photolysis, the quenching rate constant, the back-electron-transfer rate constant, and the charge separation efficiencies were determined. Complex formation between Zn(TPPS)/sub 3//sup 3 -/ and viologen was observed, and the association constants were determined by laser flash photolysis. 17 references, 11 figures, 2 tables.
