Survey of residential utility costs, 1975--77: comparative impacts on residential electric and natural gas consumers
This survey contains a compilation of data by region, state, and utility service area of the impact of the 1976-77 winter heating season on residential electric and natural gas utility customers. The cost of energy to the household consumer has increased dramatically since the 1973 oil embargo. Abnormal weather conditions this past winter created severe hardships for many utility customers, particularly those customers with low and fixed incomes. Data for the survey were submitted voluntarily by member companies of the Edison Electric Institute and National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners. The survey compares average monthly consumption and costs for this winter with the 1975-76 heating season. Weather data by heating degree day differentials are also included.
