Analysis of the bark of trees with an electron probe microanalyzer revealed that lead, chlorine, and bromine are associated with particles, about 7 ..mu..m in diam, on or embedded in the bark. The similarity in elemental content is noted between the lead-bearing particles on trees and some of the compounds emitted in automobile exhaust.
