Implementation of an intranet for industrial control

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:522220

The World Wide Web (WWW) on the Internet has exploded into the forefront of networking. How is it possible to utilize this technology for industrial control? LANL has implemented a research intranet used for process control. Applications using standard commercial software for servers, human machine interface, and networking were used to create the intranet. SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data) is moved to a generic database via a TCP/IP network. An Internet server is used to take the information from the database and place it in an HTML format for viewing using a web browser. This paper explains the use of an intranet for industrial control applications.
