This paper considers the application of existing packaged software to the numerical solution of stiff oscillatory ordinary differential equations. By applying the software to a sequence of model problems, it is possible to identify the difficulties that may be encountered when the codes are to be used in more realistic applications. The paper highlights these difficulties and pays particular attention to the effects of using the software on different computers.
