A crossed-beam charge transfer study was carried out for the Na(3 {sup 2}{ital P}{sub 3/2,1/2})+I{sub 2}{r arrow}Na{sup +}+I{sup {minus}}{sub 2} system using laser excitation of the Na atom into its two spin--orbit states. The collision energy effects including the energy threshold and post-threshold laws were measured for both spin--orbit states.
