The Reilly Tar Chemical Corporation site is listed on the National Priorities List. The 120-acre site is a facility that has been used for the production of pyridine and related products since the early 1950s. The environmental contamination on-site, as measured in a leach test, consists of pyridine compounds (over 13 ppm), including 4-methyl pyridine (11.8 ppm), 2-vinyl pyridine (l.6 ppm), and pyridine (0.04 ppm). The site is considered to be of potential public health concern because of the risk to human health caused by the possibility of exposure to hazardous substances via contaminated ground water, soil, surface water, sediment, and air.
