The power-producing potential of small hydroelectric plants at existing dams in New England and other sections of the US is discussed. The Corps of Engineers estimates that 5100 MW of electrical generating capacity could be obtained from more efficient turbogenerators installed at existing dams. The economic, environmental, and time advantages of developing and using these sources of hydroelectric power are emphasized. (LCL)
