Quantitative Raman characterization of Mo/TiO/sub 2/ catalysts

Two molybdenum species (i.e., Mo interaction species and MoO/sub 3/) are identified and quantitated by Raman spectroscopy for a series of Mo/TiO/sub 2/ catalysts. The Mo interaction species is shown to increase with Mo loading up to 6 wt% MoO/sub 3/ and to level off at higher Mo loadings. MoO/sub 3/ is detected at 7.5 wt% MoO/sub 3//TiO/sub 2/ and shown to increase linearly with further Mo addition. The molybdenum speciation determined from Raman data is shown to correlate with ESCA and X-ray diffraction measurements. 33 references.
