Study of the 1/2 (541) rotational band in sup 169 Ta

The level scheme of the 1/2(541) band in {sup 169}Ta has been established using the {sup 155}Gd({sup 19}F, 5n) {sup 169}Ta reaction with beams provided by the HI-13 tandem accelerator of the IAE. The crossing frequency, corresponding to alignment of a pair of {ital i}{sub 13/2} quasineutrons for the 1/2(541) band is deduced to be 0.305 MeV {h bar} which is about 40 keV delayed in comparison with the Yrast band of its even-even neighbors. Cranked Shell Model calculations based on configuration-dependent deformation parameters are compared with the experimental results. The deformation-driving effects are discussed.
