Upper Valley oil field, Garfield County, Utah. [Guidebook]
The Upper Valley field, which was discovered by the Tenneco Oil Co. in 1964, is the only commercial oil field in the Kaiparowitz Basin of S.-central Utah. Porosity development is in the Kaibab Limestone (Permian) and in carbonates of the Timpoweap Member of the Moenkopi Formation (Triassic). The reservoir rock is tan to buff, fine-grained, sucrosic dolomite. The productive intervals are characterized by loosely crystalline texture and are vuggy. The principal production is from 2 persistent porous zones, both of which occur in the Beta Member of the Kaibab Limestone. Current production from 11 wells is about 5,000 bopd, with a reported approx. equal amount of water. The cumulative production was 1,737,000 bbl of oil and 1,702,000 bbl of water as of Dec. 31, 1968. The discovery well has produced over half a million barrels of that total oil production. (13 refs.)
