Parametric analysis of in situ retorting options for NOSR 1

Conference · · Oil Shale Symp. Proc.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5210848
Because vertical MIS (Modified In Situ) technology is still in a developmental stage, technical parameters that will define commerical operations are still being evaluated in field operations. So as not to bias the results against the use of an MIS concept on NOSR 1, due to lack of field data and poor assumptions, a parametric analysis was underaken which would evaluate this technology for the following variables; oil yield, retort configuration, cost, and compatibility with the NOSR 1 resource. Two retorting scenarios were considered: MIS retorting only and MIS/surface retorting combinations. Capital and operating costs have been estimated and selling price of oil calculated. Ranges of oil yield, shale grade, and surface in situ retort mix have been identified for economic operation. 6 refs.
