OSTI ID:5209545

An image signal processor (isp) which can execute various image processing about 10/sup 3/ times as fast as 16 b microcomputers, is described. The device has been designed to perform, in realtime, most two-dimensional basic image processing for gray-scale industrial tv images, which consist of 256*256 8-bit picture elements (pixels). The isp, employs parallel and pipeline processing to perform the required number of arithmetic operations. The system consists of a data unit, processor unit including four 8 bit arithmetic logic units, memory unit, evaluation unit, linkage unit and control unit. The isp has been fabricated, using 3 mu cmos technology, and contains about 61000 transistors. It is mounted in a 64-pin dual-in-line ceramic package.
