The mining of bituminous coal in the FRG has become increasingly concentrated in a few plants with high coal haulage. In a year, 150 million tons of raw coal, 8 million tons of refuse and 2 million tons of equipment are hauled from underground, and 6 million tons of stowing material and 7 million tons of equipment transported into the pits. 4 million tons of equipment is moved underground from place to place. Statistics are presented of mine transport and haulage by type of haulage equipment, and the main methods are described - belt haulage, tub haulage, mine cars, guided transport railroads, railless transport, pipelines, chairlifts, man-riding trains and buses. The advantages of an integrated haulage and transport system are enumerated.
