Parametric excitation of electron acoustic waves

It is shown that for a plasma with ion temperature greater than the electron temperature, the ordinary electromagnetic wave can decay into an upper hybrid wave and an electron acoustic wave. The growth rate is larger than that of the corresponding decay into ion quasimodes for low pump powers.
