Energy supplies and the serious problems they present cannot be studied without detailed statistics on production, trade, consumption, etc., for each source of energy. These statistics for each source, moreover, need to follow a standard pattern so that they can be presented in consolidated and comparable form. This publication presents a set of such basic statistics for the benefit of economists and others concerned with energy problems in the OECD countries. Pt. 1 shows trends for each principal source of energy from 1956 to 1970 for the OECD as a whole and for each of the 3 main OECD areas, i.e., North America, Europe, and Japan. Pt. 2 relates to the situation in 1968, 1969, and 1970 for all sources of energy in each OECD country and in the 5 groups of OECD countries.
