Microcracks and energy. Progress report, 1 March 1983-29 February 1984

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5206942
During this past year we have: obtained high spatial resolution fission track maps for samples of Conway, Mount Osceola, Sherman, and Carnmenellis granites; prepared 100 samples of the same granites for measurement of whole rock U and Th with the delayed neutron technique and run about 30 samples for U content; extended to 100 square miles the minimum geographical extent of mobilization of U, Th, and REEs in the Conway and Mount Osceola granites; reconnoitered the association of U, Th, REEs with microcracks in rocks near Augusta, Maine and found that these elements were mobilized, most likely by the hydrothermal circulation described quantitatively by John Ferry; developed a simple method to identify minerals in the Fe-Ti-O system; and published one manuscript and three abstracts.
