Incorporating rigorous heat balance prevents overdesign of gas pipelines

Journal Article · · Oil Gas J.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5206042

A rigorous, step-bystep procedure is presented which allows the calculation of flowing temperature and pressure profiles in gas pipelines. The method can either proceed in the direction of flow or counter to the direction of flow. Line capacity and flowing end temperature can also be calculated. Line sizing can be accomplished by successive application of the procedure. Compressor horsepower and cooler duty can be determined. The method cannot be used for the analysis of true network systems, like gas-distribution systems, but it can be extended to CO/sub 2/ pipelines and gas-lift analysis.
