Kinetic study on hydrotreating. [Dibenzothiophene]
The kinetics of hydrodesulfurization (HDS), hydrodenitrogenation (HDN), and hydrogenation of polynuclear aromatics (HPA) were studied simultaneously over presulfided catalysts. The experiments were carried out in a continuous-flow microreactor operated at elevated pressures (15 to 55 atm) and temperatures (230 to 375/degree/C). Dibenzothiophene (DBT), aniline (ANI), and naphthalene (NAPH) were chosen as the major model compounds for HDS, HDN, and HPA, respectively. Their pseudo-first-order rate constants were measured and compared. The relative rates of the above three reactions were found to be in the following order: HDS>HDN/approximately equals/HPA, despite the identities of catalysts employed. Hydrodesulfurization of a commercial kerosene sample was also studied. The result showed that the relative HDS rates of DBT and kerosene over several catalysts were approximately the same. 16 refs.
