Heat pump defrosting operation
This patent describes an improvement to the method of defrosting operation of a heat pump having a compressor, an interior heat exchanger, an exterior heat exchanger, an exterior fan for moving exterior air past the exterior heat enchanger, and a thermostatic control means for cycling the compressor on and off in accordance with heating demand. The improvement comprises: measuring at least the temperature of the exterior heat exchanger; and operating the exterior fan during times immediately following the thermostatic control means cycling off the compressor to raise the temperature of the exterior heat exchanger to the exterior ambient temperature, ceasing operation of the exterior fan at least when the measured exterior heat exchanger temperature is greater than freezing.
