Novel method for controlling LNG pool fires

A novel method for controlling LNG pool fires has been developed. In the proposed method, a layer of granules or blocks of nonflammable, low-density, solid materials is situated in bund areas surrounding liquid fuel storage tanks. The tests described have dealt with liquefied natural gas (LNG) pool fires and have included an evaluation of a range of conventional fire fighting materials in a 6 by 6 m bund fire.
