Doubly excited states of the helium negative ion
Wave functions of doubly excited states /sup 2/S, /sup 4/P/sup o/, /sup 4/P, /sup 2/P/sup o/, and /sup 2/D of the n = 2 shell of He/sup -/ are studied in hyperspherical coordinates. The interaction between the outer electron pair and the He/sup +/(1s) open-shell core is treated by imposing boundary conditions at the core's surface and by spin recoupling. Adiabatic potential curves and the corresponding eigenvectors are studied as functions of the hyperradius R. Complex effects of channel couplings are analyzed, particularly for the /sup 2/P/sup 0/ states. Resonant ''free-free'' radiative transitions /sup 2/S..-->../sup 2/P/sup o/ and /sup 4/P/sup o/..-->../sup 4/P are calculated and analyzed into contributions from the dipole operator at different R.
