In order to retain nuclear generated power as a viable option, LMFBRs (Liquid Metal Fast Breeder Reactors) must be developed and deployed. Designs have been evolved for both a 'pool' configuration and a 'loop' configuration. In the pool concept, heat is transferred from the core to primary sodium contained in a reactor vessel and then transferred to a non-radioactive secondary sodium system via intermediate heat exchangers (IHX) contained within the reactor vessel.
