White ash (Fraximus americana) seedlings were reared in a growth chamber at constant 27 C, 80% relative humidity (RH), and 2200 ft-c for a 12-hr photoperiod. All combinations of pre-, during, and post-fumigation temp of 16 and 27 C and relative humidities of 65 and 85% were used to determine the influence of these factors on seedling response to 25 pphm ozone. The pre-, during, and post-fumigation treatment periods were 2-3 weeks, 4 hr, and 4 days, respectively. A pre- and post-fumigation temp of 27 C and a fumigation of 16 C resulted in the greatest injury. The response was similar for seedlings 4, 6, and 10 weeks of age. Pre-, during, and postfumigation relative humidity regimes of 85% resulted in the most severe injury on plants 4, 12, and 14 weeks of age. The influence of RH was greatest on the youngest plants.
