Title: Development of an acoustic emission zone monitor and recorder for BWR pipe-cracking detection. Final report

Technical Report ·
DOI:https://doi.org/10.2172/5194390· OSTI ID:5194390

The purpose of this program was to develop a method and special purpose instrumentation to make available to reactor plants the demonstrated capability to detect stress corrosion cracking by acoustic emission monitoring. Three prototypic field-usable instruments incorporating a zone isolation source determination concept and digital memories for data recording have been completed. These instruments have been successfully tested under simulated reactor flow noise conditions and on pipe stress corrosion cracking tests. EPRI currently plans to use the instruments on stress corrosion cracking tests in 26 inch pipe to detect the onset of stress corrosion cracking.
