Results are presented of a stellar content survey of two spiral galaxies, NGC 2403 and M81, conducted on the basis of photographic plates in Johnson UBVR and Cousins-Kron R(ck), obtained with the prime focus camera on the 4-m telescope at the Kitt Peak National Observatory. It was found that there are no significant differences in the slopes of the luminosity functions of the two galaxies, in agreement with previous results for M31 (SbI-II) and M33 (ScIII) and confirming the proposed similarity of the slopes of the luminosity functions among Sb- and Sc-type galaxies. These results and the properties of the brightest stars in the NGC and M81 indicate that the stellar populations in the two galaxies are similar. 35 refs.
