The objective of this study is to generate a dynamic model of the processes involved in the cycling of organic carbon in the sediments and the wates of the southern California Bight by the chemical and biological characterization of sedimenting particles interceptd in the water column at various depths as well as from recent sediments. At UCLA, the quantitative data of the various organic compounds in the sediments (cores) and particles from the interceptor traps deployed from the water column are gathered to determine the processes occurring in the water column and sedimentary regimes.
