Hooker Chemical Corp. offered $280,000 to the city of Niagara Falls and the Niagara County Board of Health in early Aug. 1978 to help solve toxic leachate problems from a former Hooker landfill in the Love Canal area. Hooker is giving the money, which is one-third of the needed funds, with the understanding that the balance will be made up from public funds. According to Hooker, the company maintains the position that it is not liable for any claims or damages that may result from the situation.
