We propose a new approach to the description of a system of three nucleons as a system of nine quarks. The short-range interaction of nucleon clusters in the nucleus is described in terms of the wave functions of virtual six-quark configurations. We show that the effective Hamiltonian in a system of three nucleons contains three-particle forces, which, however, can be removed by an appropriate redefinition of the nucleon component of the nine-quark wave function. We derive an integral equation for the wave function of a bound state in a system of three nucleons. It has the form of a standard three-particle equation, but requires the phase-equivalent redefinition of the initial form of the NN interaction in the method of compound quark bags.
