Basic design considerations for femtosecond pulse dye lasers

New techniques and methods can be used for designing laser oscillators and optical amplifiers that can produce optical pulses in the femtosecond time domain. The colliding pulse mode-locked dye laser and a four-stage optically pumped amplifier can generate 70-fs optical pulses in the gigawatt power range.
