Patent ·
OSTI ID:5184512
An electric heat treating furnace is described comprising wall means defining a work chamber, an electric resistance heating element disposed within the chamber and operable when energized to heat workpieces disposed in the chamber, means located outside of the chamber for energizing the heating element, and a rigid conductor extending slidably through the wall means and connecting the heating element electrically to the energizing means. The conductor has an inner end portion connected to an end of the heating element, the improvement in the furnace comprising, a retaining washer encircling the inner end portion of the conductor and located between the end of the heating element and the wall means, and an insulating washer encircling the inner end portion of the conductor and engaging the retaining washer. The retaining washer and the insulating washer each is formed with a substantially radially extending slit and each being movable into and out of encircling relationship with the inner end portion of the conductor from within the chamber without taking the conductor out of the wall means and without disconnecting the conductor from the heating element.
