The prospects of using large vacuum photodiodes with gas scintillation proportional counters

Journal Article · · IEEE Trans. Nucl. Sci.; (United States)
Calculations have been made that indicate that large area vacuum photodiodes, particularly with Cs/sub 2/Te photocathodes, offer great advantages over photomultiplier tubes as the light sensing element in a gas scintillation proportional counter. Expected quantum efficiencies for Cs/sub 2/Te and CsI photocathodes are calculted for Xe, Kr, and Ar spectra.
