This paper describes a low-inductance high-current rail-type gas discharger with multichannel commutation. The discharger is designed for operation in voltage-pulse generators with a heteropolar charging stage. The working voltage is up to 150 kV and the inductance with multichannel breakdown is 8 nH. The inductance of the discharger, which is a function of the number of spark channels in the gap, was determined by comparing the period of natural oscillations of the LC network formed by the capacitors of the stage, the discharger, and the conductors under short-circuit conditions with the period of natural oscillations of the same network with the discharger replaced by a wide copper plate with excitation from an external generator. The discharger is a working model of a 250-kV discharger that is now being developed to replace the obsolete dischargers in the Nadezhda accelerator.
