Some observations on supercomputer computational environments

The author describes supercomputer (Cray-1 and Cyber 205) computational environments with which scientists and engineers must interface when solving large-scale mathematical modeling problems. Some of the Cray-1 and Cyber 205 architectural attributes are presented along with a brief discussion of how these (vector) machines differ from existing conventional (scalar) computers. A supercomputer bibliography is included as an appendix. 26 references.
