Improvements in the theoretical prediction of the departure from nucleate boiling

The theoretically based procedure of Pei and Weisman for the prediction of the departure from nucleate boiling (DNB) was extended so that it can more readily be used for design purposes. This work: (a) developed approaches that allow DNB predictions to be obtained in rod-bundle channels and annuli with unheated walls; (b) devised a procedure that allows the DNB ratio to be computer; (c) showed that the predictive procedure may be used for any grid design providing the mixing caused by the grid is known; (d) showed that the range of conditions over which the predictive approach may be applied can be significantly extended.
