Silver anodes are used in a number of rechargeable alkaline chemical power sources. Results of voltammetric studies of processes occurring at silver electrodes described. It was found that the cyclic voltammograms for systems silver-alkaline electrolyte display two oxidation peaks during the anodic potential sweep and two reduction peaks during the cathodic sweep. Anomalous effects in the form of anodic peaks arising during the cathodic scan have been recorded at silver and a number of other electrodes and have been called ''inverse'' peaks. The authors have used voltammetry at rotating disk electrodes of silver and platinum for the purposes of a more detailed examination of the character of the ''inverse'' peaks and of their mechanism of formation. The ''inverse'' peaks observed in voltammetric studies at silver electrodes in KOH solutions are due to the oxidation of silver to AgO and Ag/sub 2/O.
