Reducing the power capacity of paper- and board-making machinery

An analysis of dependences is shown which point to a significant advantage of the power indexes of centrifugal vacuum compressors (CVC) over water-ring vacuum compressors (WVC). Replacing the WVC by the CVC in paper and boardmaking machinery would make for significant economy. For machines producing newsprint at 500 tons/day (width 8380 mm and designed rate 1070 m/sup 3//min), the savings from using the CVC compared to the WVC is 442,000 dollars a year.
