Modeling monthly incident solar radiation on inclined surfaces for children locations

Solar radiation values on inclined surface from horizontal solar radiation data are required in the design of active or passive systems. Most published meteorological data give only the total insolation on a horizontal surface. Consequently to obtain insolation values on inclined surfaces from horizontal total solar radiation data, correlation procedures are required to separate the direct and diffuse component from horizontal global insolation. The well know Liu and Jordan equation and Page correlation are used for this purpose. The derivation of slope irradiance from horizontal solar radiation is outlined and the effects of orientation of the surface for 75 Chilean locations from 18/sup 0/ South to 63/sup 0/ South latitude are discussed.
