Light, strong foamed cement: a new tool for problem wells

Journal Article · · World Oil; (United States)
OSTI ID:5165641
Air or nitrogen-foamed cement can replace or supplement conventional slurries. Because it can be mixed at very low densities without seriously compromising strength, foamed cement appears ideal for use with conductor pipe in deepwater wells, such as off the East Coast of Canada, where surface formation fracture gradients approach seawater hydrostatic pressure. The product is a good insulator and has potential for both Arctic and geothermal operations. It provides good zonal and bonding properties and has been demonstrated to be effective against lost circulation. Little specialized equipment is required to use foamed cement and cost is competitive with other lightweight cements.
