Determination of kaon and valon structures from soft hadronic processes

The low-p/sub t/ data of the K/sup +/p BEBC experiment at 70 GeV/c have been analyzed within the framework of the valon model. The p ..-->.. ..pi../sup -/ cross section is first used to determine the parton distribution in a valon. The result is then used to make a prediction for the p ..-->.. ..pi../sup +/ distribution without free parameters; the agreement is satisfactory. The corresponding ..nu..W/sub 2/ has an effective Q/sup 2/ approx. 1 (GeV)/sup 2/. From the K/sup +/ ..-->.. K/sup n/ data, we determine the valon distributions in a kaon and the parton distributions in the strange valon. The quark distributions in a kaon are then exhibited.
