Australia currently produces 400,000 bopd and current remaining reserves amount to ca 1,905 million bbl. There are 3 main oil producing areas in Australia: the offshore Gippsland Basin in Victoria, Moonie and other small fields in the Surat Basin of Queensland, and Barrow Is. field in the offshore Carnarvon Basin in W. Australia. A fourth area, the Moomba area fields of the Cooper and Eromanga basins of south Australia should come on stream early 1983. The activity in each of these areas is discussed.
